OUR SLOGAN

"TEACH TO TEACH"

WE ARE COMMITTED TO THE EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF BREAST CANCER IN THOSE PLACES "WHERE OTHERS WON'T GO"

It is our MISSION... For this we teach rural doctors, medical students, nursing students and health promoters how to TEACH WOMEN IN THEIR COMMUNITIES to empower themselves in the care of their Breasts. We teach them for their work how they should express themselves in understandable, simple terms, how to have confidence, how to recognize the value of that teaching as one of the pillars against breast cancer. They should be humble when women ask about their myths and legends. We want them to be leaders in these programs.

We teach them not to underestimate the potential of women to learn and interpret the most frequent breast symptoms and suspect Cancer in time, without fear of facing it.

WE ARE COMMITTED TO THE USE OF TECHNOLOGIES THAT SUPPORT EARLY DIAGNOSIS IN PLACES WHERE A MAMMOGRAM WOULD NEVER REACH AND FOR MANY WOMEN DUE TO THEIR SOCIAL, GEOGRAPHICAL AND VIOLENCE CONDITIONS, IT WILL NOT TAKE TIME.

WE ARE a non-profit institution created in 2008, with the idea of being able to participate and improve the conditions for early diagnosis of cancer. Our experience led us to propose a total change as you can see as well as the results we are obtaining.

Initially, FUNDAVENUS participated in the coffee area, in health programs with the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia, specifically in the department of Risaralda.

After a parenthesis and with the redefinition of objectives, the scope of the FOUNDATION is established, committing to training related to the early diagnosis of breast cancer in low-income women in suburban and rural areas. (See Our activities in 2023)

The characteristic of how we teach these women, as well as general practitioners and especially young rural doctors, nurses and health promoters, is THE PASSION WITH WHICH WE DO IT.

On the different pages you will be able to see everything we have done, you will see our activities in empowering women in the care of their Breasts and especially how to discover Cancer as early as possible, but you will also see how educating young students and rural doctors made us discover a new passion that will only benefit them and their communities. You will see how we are teaching leadership and how to have PASSION FOR OUR COUNTRY AND ITS NEEDS FOR GOOD COMMITTED MEN.

DECLARATIONTHE VENUS FOUNDATION ADOPTS THE DECLARATION OF OTAWA AND WHO FOR COMMUNITY PREVENTION PROGRAMSPROMOTING HEALTH AND PREVENTING DISEASE FROM HEALTH EDUCATIONThe Ottawa International Conference in 1986 defined health promotion as "the process of empowering people and communities to increase control over health determinants, and therefore improve their health." (1)In 1991, WHO, the United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations Children's Development Organization (UNICEF) jointly define Health Education - EpS as the whole of educational opportunities for health both inside and outside the school, acting to harmonize health messages from various sources and enabling children and young people to act in favor of a healthy life and better health conditions ; that is, that it as a construct represents the consciously created learning opportunities to facilitate behavioral changes to achieve a predetermined goal, relating to disease prevention and constitutes a means to modify certain behaviors, understood as risk factors (2)Health education informs, motivates and helps the population to adopt and maintain healthy practices and lifestyles, advocates the necessary environmental changes to facilitate these objectives and directs professional training and research towards these goals. In WHO's opinion, the EpS is “any combination of information and education activities that lead to a situation where people want to be healthy, know how to achieve health, do what they can individually and collectively to maintain health and seek help when you need it »(3)Based on these definitions, Health Education becomes an educational strategy to promote the health of individuals and communities, through intersectoral work and not only as a commitment of the health sector. It covers not only actions aimed directly at increasing people's abilities and capacities, but also those aimed at modifying social, environmental and economic conditions that have an impact on health determinants (4)In this way, the EpS, which aims to improve people's health, can be considered from two perspectives:• Preventive• Health promotionFrom a preventive point of view, training people to avoid health problems by controlling risk situations themselves, or avoiding their possible consequences. From a health promotion perspective, empowering the population to adopt healthy lifestyles. (5)Health Education considers the individual not as a passive element of his intervention, but he actively participates in the increase and improvement of his own health. He admits that human behavior is not only determined by own decisions and individual internal factors, but also by external environmental elements, so that given certain exogenous conditions, there will be hardly any changes in individual behavior. In this way, the entire community must intervene in health education. As a result of the awareness created by it, there is a self-responsibility in the care and promotion of health, which can lead to a change in attitudes, and in some cases of behavior, towards healthier lifestyles.WHO summarizes the objectives of the EpS in three:1. Get the concept of health to be inserted in the "values" recognized by the community.2. Offer the population sufficient knowledge and practical capacity to solve health problems.3. Promote the development of health services. To achieve these objectives, Modolo (3) points out that all health education actions must meet the following requirements and considerations:1. Health education should not only focus on the individual, it should understand the group, since individual behaviors have a large group, social influence.2. Concrete, relevant and perceived problems must be addressed. Do not treat nonsense problems, because they lack significance, nor general, because they are too broad, blur a possible action. It is important to collect the experiences of individuals.3. The action must be continuous and cannot remain in specific, sporadic or "campaign" performances. The formation of attitudes and behaviors requires more time than is necessary for mere information. 4. The competence of individuals must be taken into account. Each person has some behaviors and attitudes due to a story and a series of conditions that they know and value themselves, so they will decide to change them or not depending on their scale of values.5. The health education professional should not establish a relationship of authoritarianism, presenting a message dogmatically as "the truth", but should be presented as a collaborator in the search for solutions to problems of interest to all.6. The information provided must be true and complete, that is, it must not be partial, false or deformed. Recognizing the difficulty of neutrality, we must seek to cancel trends by confrontation of data from various sources.7. The motivation necessary for individuals to accept the messages must be sought, overcoming obstacles and cultural and psychological resistance to certain problems, helping them to put into practice the solutions found. (3)Based on the aforementioned, the Venus Foundation adopted the EpS as an educational strategy for the development of health promotion and prevention activities of the CANCER DE SENO aimed at the community that impacts each day. The didactics will be workshops previously selected according to the needs identified in the population.
