THIS YEAR WE STARTED WITH OUR USUAL ACTIVITIES OF OUR BREAST CANCER EARLY DIAGNOSIS PROGRAM, as always based on our teaching strategy as described on this page. But we also began to participate in teaching how to lead a disaster, something common in our country and that will serve to motivate and give passion to our students and young doctors to love this country and commit to its problems. A new year, already leaving the Covid pandemic we continue with our activities. During this we did not give them, our team of doctors, residents and students go out of risks, aware of the needs that had to contain what we had achieved until then. This year we accompany the Government of Cundinamarca as members of the team with which we train general, rural, nurses and health promoters in the last advances of breast cancer, the care routes and the prevention of breast cancer among other issues.Â

With the Colombian Air Force we continue to visit municipalities of our country as members of the volunteer surgical medical team. This year we have introduced a new activity with our students, such as leading the management of a disaster, something that happens in our country and that also deserves more attention as a way for them to know our country better

During 2022 with an extraordinary group of nurses (called Cancer referents) we develop a program that aims to train general doctors and specialists, as well as health nurses and promoters (called Gebis in the health system but prefer to continue calling promoters because this is how the community identifies them and they have similarity to the health promoters of many surrounding countries we know their activity)

 had difficulties to start our trips to towns because our specialist was sick with COVID 2 months ago and this month we had mobilization difficulties due to the protests in our country and the secondary blockades. In several recent departures, it took us about 6 hours (outside of the trip) to enter Bogota due to roadblocks. However, the cases that we have seen of women with Cancer delayed in their care due to COVID and the protests have been worth facing the difficulties.

Thus we have begun to train women in municipalities in a virtual way and we have expanded the consultation also virtual. We are learning like everyone else, but as always, our strength is the passion with which we live the need to share knowledge ... teach how to teach

Most of these women were late because of their fears, their myths, their ignorance and they lost, in addition to their lives, in some cases the possibility that their children would keep their lands and their family interest.

During 2021 we have continued with our visits to municipalities and virtual education to women in the community, general practitioners, nurses, health promoters with good results. We have trained virtually 6,000 women and but we have only visited 10 towns. We have been limited by illness of our specialist with COVID (29 days), protests and blockades of the last month in our country, vaccination campaigns and the third peak of COVID that have diverted attention from Breast Cancer as in other countries. But this cancer continues to be the leading cause of death from cancer in women and continues to affect the family economy in rural areas. The other aspect of our project that has been affected is that related to the rights of women, their access to work has decreased, domestic violence has increased and that is why with effort we have continued with the project. The University continues its relationship, the Government and the Air Force continue to support us, so despite all the difficulties we will continue this semester. We already have about 30 invitations to towns among other activities

It is a premise that we have taken very seriously and laboratories like Pfizzer have supported these efforts, which speaks to the importance of the commitment of this type of private companies to teaching.
